John "Sal" Gulino

John “Sal” Andrew Gulino, 71, of Wrentham, passed away on August 5th after a courageous four- and half-year battle with stage IV pancreatic cancer. Following his diagnosis and true to his nature Sal felt honored to help inspire and mentor those who also received a similar diagnosis. Over the course of his treatment, Sal maintained an overwhelmingly positive attitude and would conclude all medical updates with his signature phrase “ALL IS GOOD.” Sal greatly appreciated and often expressed gratitude for his world class cancer team at Dana Farber.

Sal, the son of Salvatore and Jean Gulino, was born on April 25,1952 in Attleboro, MA. Sal was a proud student athlete that excelled in football, baseball, and basketball graduated from Attleboro High School in 1970. Sal was an active member in his high school community serving on several school committees including serving as a junior and senior representative. Following his graduation from Attleboro High School he followed in his father’s footsteps attending Providence College where he continued his football career and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts. In addition to being a student athlete at Providence College Sal proudly served as a distinguished member of the Providence College Friars Club.

In 1976, Sal met his devoted wife Nancy Helen McMorrow of Wrentham, MA and were married one day short of 47 years. Sal and Nancy are the very proud parents of five children, Diana Birnbaum (spouse Mike Shaw), John Gulino II (spouse Abigale Jeppesen Gulino), Michael Gulino (spouse Rachel McMillan Gulino), Brian Gulino (spouse Jennifer Gulino), and Kara “Beanie” Graham (spouse Christopher Graham). Sal was extremely proud of his legacy of thirteen grandchildren Jacob Birnbaum, Tyler Birnbaum, Dylan Birnbaum, Laurel Gulino, Madeline Gulino, Ella Graham, Chloe Gulino, Sophie Gulino, Abigale Graham, Luca Gulino, twins Hannah and Madison Gulino, and Keeley Gulino.

Sal is survived by his loving siblings Susan Livingston, Father Stephen Gulino, Thomas Gulino (spouse Lisa Gulino), Lisa Gulino, and Carol Gulino.

Sal took great pride in contributing to the local community. Sal coached instructional baseball and Pop Warner football for over a decade. In addition to coaching, Sal served as a board member of the King Philip Pop Warner organization. Sal also served on the Wrentham Recreational Committee for eighteen years. During his time on the recreation committee Sal was a key contributor in helping raise funding and helped oversee the installation of lighting the ball fields on Randall RD, contributing to the legacy started by his father-in-law Francis McMorrow who was foundational in developing Wrentham recreational baseball.

Sal’s passion for football continued after his playing and coaching days ended. Sal began officiating football where he built a storied officiating career for almost three decades. Sal was a member of the executive board of the Massachusetts Independent Football Officials Association at the time of his passing.

Sal was also an avid golfer. He spent many years at Highland Country Club in Attleboro, MA. Sal also enjoyed golfing locally and nationally with his family and close friends.
